Sindhi Migration and Diaspora

Subhash Bishnoi

After division, most of the Hindus and Sikhs were migrated to India from Pakistan and the most of Muslim in India migrated to Pakistan. According to estimation, 10 million Sikhs and Hindus migrated to India while almost equal number Muslims went to Pakistan from India. At that time there were 1,400,000 Hindus living in cities such as Hyderabad, Karachi, Shikarpur, and Sukkur in the Sindh. It was supposed that Hindus would stay in Sindh even after partition as there were good communal relations among Hindu, Muslim and Sikhs in Sindh.

The name Chakma was given during the Began era by one of the Burmese Kings, which means powerful and great, derived from a Sanskrit word Shaktimaha. The Chakmas incorporated the positions of ministers, advisors and translators to the Burmese Kings, often translating the Kings the Buddhist Pali text, hence the Chakmas held powers in the Kings court.
